Suppressing Parental Knowledge

The following is based on multiple eye witness interviews during a recent parent/teacher night.

For over 3 months, PS 79M’s Principal Greer Phillips has successfully employed aggressive tactics to protect herself from the parents of the 300 children she has abused. Outside of HoranWatch’s own efforts to reach some parents, none have been informed about her and her administration’s abuse of these kids using a hoax school shooting drill.

Principal Greer’s newest weapon against parent’s rights, was to suddenly redesign Parent/Teacher night. Rather than allow parents their usual one-on-one time with teachers – teachers who may speak candidly about abuse – it is being reported that all conversations were now to take place in a single room with her in attendance as well as a roaming dean who makes sure he passes each conversation.

70 Days, Emotionally Disturbed Children Acting Up

Today marks 70 days that PS 79m’s 300 children with disabilities and with severe emotional disturbances have not received any PTSD evaluation and care, denying them their right to health and access to their education. Parents have also not been contacted – as required by law – which further denies them the choice to provide urgent post-trauma health care for their children.

We have reports of children struggling with lifelong, severe emotional disturbances acting up physically and aggressively since the illegal lockdown drill where they and their teachers were made to believe they were undergoing a real and very dramatic school shooting.

We truly fear that we are turning a dangerous threshold where these children may become a threat to each other, school staff, their families, and themselves… [continue reading]

Emails: 7 Weeks On, Official DOE Position On Child Abuse Is To Not Inform Parents

When we reach anyone at the NYC Department of Education, including Commissioner Dennis Walcott, we’re either hung up on or swiftly forwarded to their PR. Yes, our concerns about parents not being informed about child abuse, and their children not receiving any post trauma care for it is forwarded to the DOE’s PR office.

Head’s Up Teachers & Staff

Document everything. On printed paper. Respond to all offline conversations with an email confirming what was said. Print important emails for safe keeping. Print evidence of your commendations and any positive feedback from anyone. File complaints with the UFT using your personal email. CC the UFT on anything important. Your principal and her admin are after you. This will continue until you all find power as a group to move as one. You deserve better. And your principal is about to make you fight for it.

A principal who abuses 300 kids with disabilities, and continues to hide it from parents, cannot be expected to play fairly. Be prepared. You have truth on your side. What you don’t have is solidarity between you. I hope you find it.

Call each other. Build a network of trusted friends. Speak after school on how to act as one.

For deeper tips on how to protect yourself, email horanwatch@rocketmail.com. We’ve collected tools and ideas from all across the teacher labor movement to help you win.

You are protected. Even if they don’t have to make things up, digging around looking for things in order to target you for their self preservation is illegal.

Walk proudly with your heads up. You are not alone. Together you always win.

Assistant Principals Suspended?

We’ve heard that assistant principals may have been suspended pending the investigation. And we continue to hear that Principal Greer Phillips continues in her position and continues using it to threaten and abuse her staff in retaliation. No word yet of any immediate PTSD care for the 300 kids. No word yet of any information sent to parents about what occurred to their children.
